Liberia 2011 Election Coordinating Committee Launched

Civil society organizations and pro-democracy groups have jointly formed a group under the banner, "Election Coordinating Committee" to thoroughly and thoughtfully monitor the pending National Referendum and the presidential and general elections in Liberia.

The Election Coordinating Committee (ECC) comprises over 30 civil societies of various groups including the Civil Society Organizations National Committee for Elections Coalition (CSO-NEC), the National Coalition for Elections Monitors (NACEM) and the Search for Common Ground/Talking Drum Studio (SFCG/TDS).

The Chairman of the ECC, Oscar Bloh of the Search for Common Ground/Talking Drum Sudio, in a statement at the launching named activities the group will engage in as election violence monitoring, National Referendum monitoring, and deploying monitors across the country to monitor the general and presidential elections to give accurate updates that will not contradict results other institutions will come out with.

The launching ceremony in Monrovia was attended by representatives of key stakeholders including the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL), the Open Society Initiative of West Africa (OSIWA) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

New Tech At Work : Planning For Liberia's Elections And Beyond

Folks at Ushahidi Liberia and Google are planning an interesting event : New Tech at Work : Planning for Liberia's elections and beyond on Friday 24th June 2011 in Liberia.

The meeting is expected to discuss Internet and Elections, tools such as FrontlineSMS, Blogs - Blogger, Twitter,Picture sharing and taking,  Facebook,Data Storage,Google Maps, Map Maker, Ushahidi and Interactive news. Topics such as Linux, Local networks,App Engine will also form part of the workshop.
