At capital's Eagle Square in Abuja, the influential ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP) party is set to elect its presidential candidates out of three candidates namely Goodluck Jonathan who become president of Nigeria on the demise of Umaru Yar'Adua in May 2010 and his key challenger is Atiku Abubakar, the former vice-president who hails from the north. Under zoning rules, the presidential slot is expected to go to a northerner but Goodluck candidature is disturbing this arrangement.
Also in the race is Sarah Jubril the only women challenging the two candidates. About 5,000 voters drawn from Nigerian's 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are expected to vote for the three presidential under 'open secret' ballot system.
In April 2011, Nigeria is expected to hold its landmark presidential elections.
