Comoros constitutional court has ordered the repeat of elections in 13 areas after judges ruled there were massive irregularities in those areas during the April 10 presidential election.
According to the court, the poll rerun should be done before May 15.
Mohamed Soilihi had petitioned the court for a repeat of the election in 15 localities claiming irregularities and serious cases of violence prevented about six thousand voters from making their choice.
This decision now “challenged” the lead of President Azali Assoumani who stands ahead of the ruling party’s candidate, Ali Soilihi by 2000 votes with the governor of the Grande-Comorre island coming third.
Partial results indicate that Azali Assoumani leads with 40.98%, Mohamed Ali Soilihi is second with 39.87% while Mouigni Baraka, Governor of Grande Comorre comes third with 19.15%.
The court has maintained that the new president will be sworn in by the 26th of May.
