Presidential candidates in Ghana have committed themselves to
a peaceful election in a peace deal signed in Accra after they were convened by
the National Peace Council.
Speaking
during the ceremony John Mahama said the pact gives comfort that Ghana will
continue in peace and stability, further indicating that Ghana’s democracy is
too precious to be “gambled away on the altar of an unbridled quest to hold
unto power.”
Incumbent
President John Mahama will face six other candidates with his biggest nightmare
being Nana Akufo-Addo.
Nana
Akufo-Addo, flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party said his wish is to ensure
that Ghana maintains its position as a shining example of democracy in Africa.
John
Dramani Mahama of the NDC and Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic
Party know themselves so well following their contest in 2012.
