Nigeria: Actor wins primaries to represent opposition

The All Progressive Congress, APC, primaries to elect those who will represent the party in the 2015 elections have continued to throw up interesting scenarios and surprises as Nollywood actor, Desmond Elliot, triumphed against all odds to clinch the ticket to vie for a seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly for Surulere 1 State Constituency, defeating a two-term incumbent member of the House, Kabiru Lawal, with a wide margin to grab the sole ticket.

The movie director and producer is seen as a bridge builder who has good plans for the people especially the youths and women in the area of empowerment, employment and education. He also has youthfulness on his side and while in the movie industry, he has been one of the very few actors who have stayed out of controversy, an antecedent that has made him a role model to many Nigerian youths.
But it was not so smooth for veteran journalist and co-owner of Kennies Music, Dayo Adeneye, the one fondly called D1 by his fans, as he lost in the primaries election to represent Odogbolu State Constituency in the Ogun State House of Assembly.

His stable mate and Vice President of Kennies Music, gospel singer, Kenny Saint Best, lost the ticket to represent Ikeja State Constituency 1 to Folajimi Lai Mohammed, the son of the APC National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed.
