Nigeria: NSCDC trains 1500 personnel for elections in Ondo State

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ondo State Command, has trained 1500 personnel on arms handling to be deployed for the forthcoming general elections.

The Commandant of the agency in the state, Mr Claudius Yakubu, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Akure.

Yakubu said the NSCDC would ensure adequate security coverage during the elections across the 18 local government areas of the state.

“I can assure you that the corps is fully prepared for the elections and that is why the command has trained and retrained more than 1500 personnel on arms handling.

“Anyone planning to cause breakdown of law and order during the polls or after should drop such plan as the Corps will do everything possible to forestall any breach of law and order during and after the elections,”he said.

The commandant said the corps had deployed intelligence officers across the 18 local government areas of the state to gather information on the activities of those who might want to cause mayhem and frustrate the smooth conduct of the elections.

He advised youths in the state not to allow themselves to be used as political thugs during the elections.

He also called on the people of the state to give security agencies information on the activities of unscrupulous elements who might want to disrupt the polls.(NAN)
