Ghana: Electoral body needs $22 million local elections

The Principal Public Relations Officer of the Electoral Commission (EC), Mr. Christian Owusu Parry, has stated that the EC needs Ghc90m to organize the District Level elections.

Speaking on Joy Midday News, Mr. Owusu Parry said it is only when Parliament notifies the Commission about the maturity of the legislative instrument (LI) which matures today; that they can start processes to execute the elections.

According to Mr. Owusu Parry, reports that the Ghc300 was wasted in the botched elections was not correct because even though some printed materials cannot be used, a lot of the money was used to train officials, to provide additional verification material and also declaration of results sheets which are all useful in the upcoming process.

He also revealed that the clerk of Parliament is yet to notify the Commission about the vacancy in parliament following the resignation of Talensi MP, Hon. Robert Nachinab Moasong Mosore; who officially abdicated his seat after being enskinned as a paramount chief in Tongo in the Upper East Region.
